We Don’t Just Build in Communities. We Believe in Building With Them.

Growing up, the idea of community was woven into nearly every part of my life.

Church was the bedrock of my village.

It connected family, faith, personal development, teamwork, stewardship, service, relationships, and responsibility. It taught me how to show up for people, how to listen, how to contribute, and how to understand that no meaningful work gets done alone.

Those lessons followed me into construction.

Because building is not a solo act either.

There Are No Rockstars in Construction.

A building only comes together when people work together.

Architects. Engineers. General contractors. Tradespeople. Inspectors. Owners. Vendors. Laborers. Designers. Community partners.

Every person plays a role.

Construction requires communication, trust, accountability, patience, and a willingness to solve problems together.

That feels familiar to me because I learned those same principles long before I ever stepped onto a jobsite.

Church taught me the power of presence.

It taught me that willingness and service can take you far.

It taught me that relationships matter.

And it taught me that the environments we create influence how people feel, how they see themselves, how they connect, and how boldly they imagine what is possible.

That is why I have always believed the built environment matters.

From the Jersey Shore to Baltimore

I brought those lessons with me from growing up at the Jersey Shore into every stage of my professional life.

As a nurse, I saw people at some of their most vulnerable moments.

As a real estate developer and general contractor, I began seeing another side of people’s lives: where they live, what surrounds them, what they hope for, what they fear losing, and what they want to build for the future.

Baltimore made a lasting impression on me.

It is a city with deep history, extraordinary talent, and tremendous potential. It has also endured disinvestment, hardship, and broken promises. That means trust matters here.

Presence matters.

Follow-through matters.

And investment in people matters just as much as investment in property.

The places around us tell us something.

A well-maintained block can communicate care.

A safe and welcoming building can create confidence.

A thoughtfully designed home can bring stability.

A training space can open a door.

A vacant property brought back into productive use can change the energy of an entire street.

Construction is ultimately about more than materials.

It is about what those materials make possible for people.

The Built Environment
Shapes Us

Building Up Baltimore

That belief is what led to Building Up Baltimore.

Building Up Baltimore was created to connect young people with the industries and opportunities that are literally shaping the future of the city.

Construction can be an extraordinary doorway.

It can lead to skilled trades, architecture, engineering, project management, real estate development, entrepreneurship, and countless other careers connected to the built environment.

But young people have to be able to see those opportunities first.

They need access.

They need exposure.

They need mentors.

They need opportunities to step onto jobsites, meet the people doing the work, and understand that there is a place for them in the industry.

Because learning how to build is about more than learning a trade.

It teaches probles-solving.
Discipline.
Teamwork.
Leadership.
Ownership.

And the confidence that comes from being able to point to something in the world and say:
I helped build that.

Keeping the Next Generation Connected to the City

Baltimore is changing.

Major investments, redevelopment, and construction projects are reshaping neighborhoods across the city.

The next generation should not simply watch that transformation happen around them.

They should have opportunities to participate in it.

To learn from it.

To build careers through it.

And eventually, to lead it.

Building Up Baltimore exists to help make those connections.

Because when young people learn the skills required to build and improve their communities, they gain more than a paycheck.

They gain a stake in what happens next.

New Ground Builds Buildings. Building Up Baltimore Builds People.

For me, the two organizations naturally belong together.

New Ground Development focuses on the built environment — developing, renovating, and constructing spaces that can serve people and communities for generations.

Building Up Baltimore focuses on the people who will shape that environment next. One builds the structures. The other builds access, exposure, and opportunity.Together, they represent the same philosophy I learned growing up:

Show up.
Do the work.
Serve well.
Build relationships.
And share the success with the people around you.

That is community impact.

Building Something That
Outlasts Us

Legacy is not just what we own.

It is what we teach.

What we preserve.

What we improve.

And what we leave behind for someone else to build upon.

At New Ground, we want our projects to contribute to that kind of legacy — stronger buildings, stronger relationships, and more pathways for the people who will shape what comes next.

Because the best thing we can build is something that gives the next person a stronger place to start.

See How We’re Building People, Too.

New Ground Development builds the spaces. Building Up Baltimore helps prepare the next generation of people who will shape them.
